Banff Minor Hockey (BMH) offers the following Hockey Programs
Conditioning Camp:
This is an optional camp which takes place over one week in September. If enrolled, your child will partake in approximately 3-hours of on-ice sessions to work on their hockey skills prior to the start of the season. Open for all kids from Novice to Midget.
Tyke/Initiation Program:
Instructional “learn hockey” program focusing on all hockey fundamentals including skating, puck handling, skating balance, passing, shooting, and fun. This program is targeted at children 4 through 6. The Initiation Teams generally have two (1) hour practices during a week and up to six (6) home exhibition games. Kids finishing the Initiation program will stream into either the Recreation League or play on a CAHL Hockey Team (see below).
Recreation – Younger Division
Competitive hockey program for players ages 9 and 10 (Atom) and 11 and 12 (Peewee). This program is targeted at children interested in playing hockey in a fun, challenging environment but perhaps with less rigor and with a less demanding practice, game, and travel schedule than the CAHL program. Kids enrolled in this program will have one (1) hour a week of practice and can play up to twelve (12) home games. The number of teams will depend on the number of players enrolled in the program. Some travel may be offered but not required. No body contact.
Recreation – Older Division:
Semi-Competitive hockey program for players ages 13 through to 17. This program is targeted at children interested in playing hockey in a fun, challenging environment but with less zest and with a less demanding practices, games, and possible travel than the CAHL program. Kids enrolled in this program will have one (1) hour a week of indoor practice and may play up to twelve (12) home games plus and choose to pay away games. No body contact.
Girls Recreation Hockey:
The Girls Hockey program is for girls who are aged 8 to 15 years old and who wish to play the game of Hockey in an "all-female" environment. This is ideal for girls who need to sharpen their skating and puck handling skills or those who just want to join the fun with league travel. The girls will have one (1) practice a week and will be able to coordinate some games during the season.
CAHL Hockey:
Competitive hockey programs for players aged 7 (Novice) through 17 (Midget). CAHL hockey is targeted at children interested in playing hockey in the Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL) and occasionally in other locations for tournaments, exhibition games, etc. If players number are sufficient, they will play on a Banff CAHL Hockey Team. Should the enrollment numbers not make enough for a team, the kids will have the opportunity to enroll with CMHA. There is a minimum of two (2) hours a week of practice or more when the new ice surface is in, which may include the possibility of regularly scheduled morning practices. Games are generally played once and sometimes twice a weekend for up to a total of twenty-four (24) home games (which includes both league games and exhibition games) plus additional away games. All teams in the CAHL Hockey League will pay for their own exhibition games scheduled after the end of the regular season (after the February 12-14 weekend).
BHA Hybrid Midget Hockey:
The Banff Hockey Academy and Banff Minor Hockey have an agreement in place that allows kids to remain playing in Banff and partner up with some of the Banff Hockey Academy kids. The team is considered the Banff Hockey Academy Varsity Team. The ice is provided for by Banff Minor Hockey but the coaching and game schedule is set by the Banff Hockey Academy. Currently the team plays as an exhibition team but may enter into league play with CAHL or a new High School Hockey League. Costs and team commitment are set out by BHA.
